Biobot, an MIT spinout based in Massachusetts, will map the pandemic by analyzing data from sewage samples collected from across the US. The idea for the project came from new research showing that SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19, is shed in poo that flows through our toilets into city sewage systems. Biobot wants to test this sewage for SARS-CoV-2, and then use the data to create a map of the virus as it spreads to new places....

Littered Instagram feeds mean users are tapping ‘like’ less than ever before. This study by InfluencerDB measured engagement with a like-follower ratio, or by the average number of likes on a post compared to the follower count. In 2019, the engagement rate for sponsored posts fell to 2.4 from 4 percent three years earlier. And it’s not just the average influencer struggling to keep their followers interested in detox tea, the engagement rate declined across the board in the past year....

Much has changed in four years. Venture capitalists, for instance, have taken a shine to the region, with funding in just the first quarter of 2019 quintupling the $500 million that was raised by companies in all of 2016, and the number of unicorns — privately held startups that are valued at over $1 billion — having shot up from one in 2016 to 14 by the end of 2019....

According to the report and the US’ National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, the first recall relates to the roof trim in 9,136 Model X vehicles from 2016. The recall states the trim may separate from the vehicle due to bolts that may not have been tightened sufficiently and an incorrect use of adhesive. The NHTSA says the front and spine cosmetic roof trim may have been improperly attached to the vehicle....

Managing the climate is deeply rooted in Dutch culture. Now a scooter startup called Taur, which launched its first product on Kickstarter this week, thinks it can make a safer, more stable scooter ride, in a package that otherwise looks pretty sleek too. The Taur scooter’s pneumatic balloon tires are 12.5-inches wide, which is far larger than the 8-ish inch tires you’ll typically see on scooters. Moreover, they’re actually a name-brand product from Continental and have a Kevlar puncture protection layer, which should provide some additional peace of mind....

Today the company finally released its first build into the proper ‘beta’ channel, where builds are typically much more stable and generally stable enough to use on your primary PC.
